I've been a big fan of Penny Arcade since I was introduced to it years ago, and have since read them all and got my hands on some of the merchandise. I also find myself agreeing with much of what Tycho and Gabe have to say, but at the moment they have me wondering what they're on.
Long story short, Tycho linked to this article, saying that the writer should be torn apart by wild animals. I'm not sure why this particular column has got him so riled up- it's the fairly standard effect-of-games on society thing I'd think the talented creators of PA should be used to by now. Well anyway, Kevin McCullough got a truckload of comments to his article primarily it seems because of the link on the Penny Arcade and has since posted a follow-up. Neither Tycho and Gabe are overly impressed by the looks of things...
Now, what is striking me the most is that by their own assessments, Kevin McCullough is both, and I quote, "irrelevant" and "a nobody", but they appear to be more upset with him than anyone or anything they have discussed previously. If this guy is so sad and pathetic as they think why is Gabe suggesting people start to attack his sponsors? Why is Tycho getting so vicious? They're not only giving McCullough more ammo but more exposure the more they talk about him. They didn't even get this nasty about Jack Thompson this quickly. I'm baffled.
I could go on, but if you follow the whole thing through the links you'll probably get the gist. And it's not a point of which side is right or how much they are right- it's a point of why is the popular pair so offended by this guy who is supposedly such a small fish in the grand scheme of things. It's disappointing.
